{"id":2410,"date":"2023-12-24T02:05:59","date_gmt":"2023-12-24T07:05:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pahighways.com\/blog\/?p=2410"},"modified":"2025-09-16T20:21:55","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T00:21:55","slug":"2023-official-road-map","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pahighways.com\/blog\/2023\/12\/24\/2023-official-road-map\/","title":{"rendered":"2023 Official Road Map"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I always keep up on when the Department of Transportation releases a new road map by periodically checking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penndot.pa.gov\/ProjectAndPrograms\/Planning\/Maps\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maps<\/a> page at their site. Whenever I see a change in the copyright year in the northeast quadrant PDF, I know I need to scour the state for a copy.\u00a0 Sure enough, for the first time since 2019 and 2020, there is a new official road map in back-to-back years.<\/p>\r\n<p>Unlike in the past, I can not visit my local DMV office for a copy because it has since closed.\u00a0 There are two welcome centers within a few hours of my house.\u00a0 I do not have the time to drive out to them in the hopes that they have new maps.\u00a0 I learned that they don&#8217;t always when I stopped at the welcome center on westbound <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pahighways.com\/interstates\/I90.html\">Interstate 90<\/a> this past July.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the only maps they were still giving out were 2022&#8217;s version.\u00a0 So I just ordered my copy from the PennDOT Sales Office.\u00a0 At least, acquiring this edition was not as daunting as trying to get copies of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pahighways.com\/blog\/2021\/09\/15\/2020-official-road-map\/\">2020&#8217;s<\/a> map.\u00a0 That took until 2021!\u00a0 That year was understandable since the state was in the red due to the Coronavirus pandemic.\u00a0 They wanted to use up the 2019 stock before offering 2020 copies.<\/p>\r\n<p>Due to the election of Josh Shapiro as Governor in 2022, his name is now in the legend along with the new Secretary of Transportation, Michael B. Carroll.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pahighways.com\/images\/blog\/2023maplegend.jpg\" alt=\"Legend for the 2023 official state road map\" width=\"700\" height=\"368\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>The following are the changes in the 2023 official Pennsylvania map since the 2022 edition:<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:post-content -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\r\n<p><b><u>Centre County<\/u><\/b><br \/>Exit 163 on Interstate 80 completed as part of the first phase of the future interchange with Interstate 99.<\/p>\r\n<!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"center\",\"sizeSlug\":\"large\"} -->\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pahighways.com\/images\/blog\/i80exit163.jpg\" alt=\"The new local exit on I-80 which is the first part of the future I-99 interchange project.\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\r\n<p><b><u>Union County\/Northumberland County<\/u><\/b><br \/>The Northern Section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway completed, and PA 147 rerouted onto it to end at its new southern terminus at US 15.<\/p>\r\n<!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"center\",\"sizeSlug\":\"large\"} -->\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pahighways.com\/images\/blog\/pa147completed.jpg\" alt=\"PA 147 part of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway complete\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\r\n<p>Another change is PennDOT&#8217;s URL on the cover from &#8220;penndot.gov&#8221; to &#8220;penndot.pa.gov.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<p>The map has the same dimensions as the previous year&#8217;s.\u00a0 However, the cover of the 2023 official road map features a picture of three women at a camp site.\u00a0 One is doing yoga, another is walking, and a third is sitting in a chair drinking coffee.
